98 tornadoes hit America in just 24 hours
FIVE people have been left dead after more than 100 tornadoes tore through the Midwest and Plains states of America.
Hardest hit was the north west Oklhoma town of Woodward where downed power lines had disabled the storm warning system.
There were at least 120 reports of tornadoes touching down over the weekend, mainly in Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.
Woodward Mayor Roscoe Hill said sirens were apparently not working when the tornado hit. He said the sirens had been sounding loudly from storms yesterday afternoon.
In other parts of the country state officials in Iowa said a hospital in Creston had been damaged in high winds, but no injuries had been reported.
