Master Blaster meets Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar paid a goodwill visit to Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi at her residence 10 Janpath in New Delhi on Thursday.

This is Sachin's first visit to the capital since his 100th ton in March. His meeting with Mrs Gandhi after the feat was a goodwill gesture.

Amitabh Bachchan today spoke of being vindicated after Sweden's former police chief gave him a clean chit in the Bofors scam."Any statement that underlines one innocence is welcome.

But (Sten) Lindstrom was the chief investigator of the case in Sweden. When he says that my name was planted by some people from India — Indian investigators — then it carries that much weight," Bachchan said, It has been 25 years since Bachchan was alleged to be a beneficiary of the Bofors scam by a Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter.

The paper lost the case after the Bachchans took it to a UK court.

Dean Potter crosses over thin 2 inch rope above 1800 mtrs in China

A daredevil "slackline" walker has crossed China's Enshi Grand Canyon on a rope 1,800 meters (5,900ft) high and only two centimeters wide.

Dean Potter made the 40m (131ft) walk in Hubei Province in two minutes without any safety equipment and barefoot.

A "slack-line" is considered more challenging than a conventional tightrope as the line is not completely taut, leaving it susceptible to bouncing and stretching.

Bahrain stages F1 Grand Prix despite flaming protests

A government helicopter circled the capital Manama and several villages in the early morning.

The mostly Shiite opposition has stepped up its anti-regime protests, calling for the race to be canceled until reforms are introduced.

This year's Grand Prix has highlighted the differences that have riven this island nation since anti-regime protests began in February 2011.



The 2011 race in Bahrain was canceled due to the clashes.Al-Wefaq, the largest Shiite group, accused government security forces yesterday of killing Salah Abbas Habib, 36, during a "brutal" April 20 crackdown on an evening protest in Shakhoura.

Anna Hazaare speaks in double tie-ups with Baba Ramdev

Amid reports of a growing unease within his team over his tie-up with Baba Ramdev for a joint rally, veteran activist Anna Hazare today dismissed all talks of a rift over the issue.

But, in a curious doublespeak of sorts, the 74-year-old Gandhian first said that he would not be touring the country with the yoga guru, only to follow it up by saying that he did not rule out sharing a stage with Mr Ramdev at a later stage.

"There is no gap in the one-and-a-half-month tour that I am going on. I told you before that we are not going to be roaming together.



But we are fighting for the same purpose of getting back black money and the Lokpal and the Lokayukta bills.

We shall stand together and there is no change on that. After my Maharashtra trip, when we go together, it is possible that we will be on the stage together," Mr Hazare said.

Indian student shot dead by fellow students in America

In a grim incident in the US, an Indian student of the Boston University was dragged out of his hostel room and shot dead by his fellow students.

The student, K Sheshadri Rao, hailed from Odisha. He was pursuing MBA at the university.The victim's father, K Sudhakar Rao said Sheshadri was dragged out of his room allegedly by fellow students on Thursday night and shot.



Sheshadri was found dead in an adjoining park.The family further said that they were informed of the murder by the Indian Consul General only by Friday afternoon.

Maoists abduct District Collector in Bastar

Maoists pulled off an audacious kidnapping of the district collector of Sukma in southern Chhattisgarh on Saturday, killing two of his bodyguards when they tried to stop them.

The collector, Alex Paul Menon, was meeting a group of villagers for a government outreach programme.



A 2006 batch IAS officer, Menon was tracked by the Maoists as he reached Manjipara village in tribal Bastar region on Saturday afternoon, according to the police.

PM assures civil servants against witch hunting

Asking civil servants to take bold decisions, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the government would not indulge in "witch hunting" against them in the name of fighting corruption. 130 dead in Pakistan air crash

Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhar told reporters the Boeing 737-200 from Karachi was preparing to land when it came down around 6.30pm local time on farmland a few miles from Islamabad's Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

Television images showed heavy rains and wind lashing the crash site near Hussain Abad village, near Bahria town.



Witnesses, who reported to hearing a loud bang, also said they believed the Bhoja Airlines plane, which had 118 passengers and nine crew on board, was already in flames when it crashed.

Paparazzi beaten up for clicking Amy Jackson by her bouncers

The paparazzi were beginning to have a ball when a security man of Amy Jackson Prateek Chauhan, hired specifically for the ceremony, lost his cool. Deciding to be the saviour of the ladies' modesty, he beat up two photographers.

Soon after, he realised that perhaps thrashing the media when they had been specially invited to click pictures wasn't the norm and fled. The beat up lensmen however dragged another security personnel to the nearest Santa Cruz police station to lodge an official complaint.

The two photographers who were injured the most were Satyajit Desai and Dashrat Kadam. Talking to Mumbai Mirror, Satyajit said, "It is not that we photographers fall on celebrities.

We do this everyday. The bouncer started beating me, and whoever tried to intervene. Right now, I am at a hospital. The other photographer is badly injured. We went to the police station to file a complaint."

Another photographer angry at the episode said, "If they are calling us for an event where there are celebrities, we will take pictures. Who are these security people to hit cameramen so badly? Are they police officers?"
