Rail Lucky: Britain's fastest train almost hit a man on level crossing

This is the terrifying moment Britain's fastest train almost hit a man on level crossing. He came within inches of being killed as the 140pmh Javelin train approached at high speed.
Drivers watched in horror as the 61-year-old found himself between the two traffic barriers and fell over in the middle of the tracks.

He managed to pull himself to his feet and escape the thundering train with just inches to spare, as terrified onlookers turned away in horror fearing it was too late.

A series of heart-stopping pictures captured the moment the man ran across the track as a terrified railworker shouted at him to stop.

In another picture his feet can be seen just underneath a vehicle - showing how close he came to instant death.

The near miss happened at a crossing in Gillingham, Kent, at 4.20pm last Friday as people waited for the train to pass.

Fortunately the man made it to the other side of the track and was hauled over the barrier by Laura Robinson, who was waiting with her two children.

Brave Laura today described the moment she helped haul the man to safety.
