British Teacher arrested In seeking sexual favours from a pupil

A British national working as the headmaster of a reputed international school in Bangalore was arrested on Saturday for allegedly seeking sexual favours from a pupil. He was later granted bail.

Paul Francis Meeken (38) from London was employed with the Trio World School since 2010 as the headmaster. The school management has suspended Mekeen following the allegation.

According to the police, who have registered a case against Meeken, the headmaster would unnecessarily summon the 12- year-old boy to his chamber and ask him 'inappropriate and objectionable' questions. 'The boy also alleged that Meeken sought sexual favours while chatting with him on a social networking platform. This is a serious charge,' a police officer said.

On January 20, the boy complained to his mother about Meeken's alleged lewd behaviour. She approached the school management apart from lodging a police complaint against him.
Shameful

The police have filed charges against Meeken under the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2000, and Information Technology Act, 2000. On Saturday, he was remanded in judicial custody but subsequently freed on bail.

The police pointed out that the alleged victim was staying with his mother in Bangalore after spending several years abroad. 'His father is still working in the US. The boy was shocked by the headmaster's alleged behaviour. He finally complained to his mother,' the officer said.

In a statement, the Trio World School said Meeken had been suspended from his responsibilities and the management was cooperating with the police in the investigation. 'We are deeply shocked and saddened. On January 20, a parent approached the school administration with a complaint that the headmaster, Paul Meeken, was allegedly having an inappropriate chatting session with the pupil. Immediately, the management suspended him,' the statement said.

According to the school's website, Meeken was the leadership coordinator of middle and high schools in the ministry of education, UK, before joining the school as the headmaster.

He graduated from Cambridge University and was a lawyer. He subsequently made a career shift to education.
